Review by rbmurphy4

rbmurphy4 I attended and enjoyed last night's (7/28/24) show.

The first set was very strong start-to-finish:
- ASIHTOS was played very well with some interesting jamming and was a terrific opener
- The "core" of the first set Divided Sky > Wolfman's > Gin was absolutely wonderful and was certainly (IMO) the highlight of the whole show. The sky around alpine was absolutely stunning with sunset colors and crazy clouds during Divided Sky which was appropriate and probably not coincidentally chosen by Trey for the moment. Both the Wolfman's and Gin had deliberate, creative and direct jamming, each with a little extra
- The Possum closer (while predictable) had a little extra sauce on it too and got the crowd hyped for Set II

The second set overall left a lot of untapped potential from a few of the jams and some peculiar/abrubt transitions (even ripcords) from some promising songs:
- Caspian, CDT and Light all had the potential to go deep and had flashes of greatness leaving the crowd yearning for more from each. Each were good on a stand-alone (though abbreviated) basis but I was counting on each to deliver a little extra. Basically either of these three could have been the "tent pole" jam for Set/Show but it was not to be
- In particular, the choice of 20 Years Later out of Light was particularly disappointing for me as it basically put the axe to a truly memorable jam for the set
- They tried to salvage the set with a rowdy and intense 2001 > Melt but by that point I was discouraged by the untapped potential from the set to that point per above
- The Wedge and Carini are of course favorites but would have preferred in a different placement

All in, still a good show but certainly left a taste of something left to be desired.

Review by Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh I made this show. Not gonna lie after seeing the killer setlists the last several shows and monster Simple jam come through on Saturday I was wary of having a dud Sunday performance. Show was fun & great but I left the parking lot thinking it was a "3". But after re-listening to the show on SiriusXM it really is a solid 4. This was a "rock and roll" show, not so much an exploratory jamming session. But tonight's show highlighted the awesome Phish catalog - every song very well-done.

They seemed to hit their stride in Wolfman's and just rolled from there. I'm not a huge Set Your Soul fan but that turned into a beauty Set 2 opening and led into a great Caspian. I also loved the Dirt slotted half-way to help us all catch our breath before a blowout close, including a perfect Wedge/Carini closer.

I'm still chasing that show with a signature moment (this was only my second show ever) but it's really hard to complain when a band has such a diverse roster of musical compositions and is able to execute each one on a given night.
